Water for Industry - Teachers' Notes

There are two routes to explore looking at cooling and at filtering

Content

Each activity begins with a photogallery looking at different ways that are used to perform these functions: an elephant flapping it’s ears, the system in a car engine, a kitchen sieve, fishing net etc.

This then moves on to how industry could perform these operations. Interactive experimental design and choice of equipment are used to set the criteria for collection of data using fair testing.

There is also an opportunity to use the data collected to construct a graph by choosing the appropriate type, axis positions etc. Cooling data leads to a line graph, adn filtering data to a bar (column) chart.

The final sections use animations to highlight the close links between these classroom investigations and applications in industry.
